Vladimir Stozharov, whose paintings are now on view at Novosti Press Agency, died in the early 70s - not yet 50 but an already remarkable artist. Born in Moscow he went on long field trips every year to Siberia, to the Kostroma, Yaroslavl, Ryazan, Arkhangelsk, Pskov and Novgorod regions and to the Komi Autonomous Republic.
Fellow painter Igor Popov described Stozharov's work thus: "His canvasses are so solidly constructed that you can't alter anything. Robust log houses stand on or rather grow out of the soil he painted so brightly and closely. In his festive still lives everything looks real: the utensils and the bread. Stozharov delighted in beautiful things made with human care."
